The Gaming Giant Recruits Apex Legends Developer to Boost Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Transition Follows Mixed Feedback

Brinkman assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming early showing last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had indicated the necessity for a clearer direction.

The president expressed that the developers is now reimagining the project with a renewed focus, aiming to address player expectations.

A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment

The news mirrors a comparable step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the BioShock development group.

Here is the entire message from Ismailer's communication:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just finished your town hall - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a update, I expressed the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and talented creators we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re excited for that relationship to endure.”

With your dedication and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s the game demo was revealing. It confirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It revealed the requirement for a clearer vision.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the feedback to heart and revamped the title with a refreshed goal - one that’s ready to fulfill its ambition to our fans.

Our confidence in this project grows every day. To advance the outstanding development you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Studio Head of the team. After a period of discussions, he officially joins us on the specified date.

His leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having spent the past decade and a half producing and leading some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in welcoming Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to keep witnessing the evolution of the game in the months to come.

The President

Background of the Incoming Leader

The appointee presently serves in the role of senior developer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in diverse development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, prior to that, had assignments at other industry leaders.

Title Information and Vision

Project Ethos was announced in last year in conjunction with a public demo. At the time, the developers described the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an thrilling step forward on the style."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the description explains. "Face the opponents with fresh skills, stakes, and challenges that evolve every session. Do you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively take a risk, risk it all, and pray your group can secure victory? The choice is up to you."

Project Ethos lacks an announced launch window or supported systems, but players can expect further news as creation continues.
