Roughly fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.

Officers then found many other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.

A high-ranking political figure commented the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.

"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
